The Cicely Ambassador Team
The Cicely Program is a youth volunteer program designed and initiated by Heart 'n Home.
The Program was named after Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the modern hospice movement.
She started a worldwide crusade to provide compassionate end-of-life care for the terminally ill.
The Cicely Ambassador Team is an endeavor by Heart 'n Home Volunteer Services to:
- Bridge the generational gap between youth and elderly.
- Establish a commitment to life-long volunteerism.
- Encourage community engagement.
- Educate youth about end-of-life care.
The Cicely Program instills the value of volunteerism as it promotes integrity by teaching and encouraging honesty, the value of effective communication, passion, follow-through, and leadership.
Catch the Vision
Each of us has been, or will be, affected by end-of-life issues in our families,
churches, neighborhoods, and schools. Community service provides the critical
missing link for many students - an opportunity to apply academic learning to
real human needs.
The Cicely Ambassador Team is a group of high school students that have been
nominated by their school counselors and/or leadership teachers. Heart 'n Home
works closely with participating schools' administrators and counselors to
provide education to students on end-of-life care, healthcare career paths,
and other opportunities available through the Cicely Program.
